Adjusting the Hem

Adjusting the hem is a great way to right size a coat that is just too long. Coats that are full-length can typically only be worn to very formal events, so taking up the hem can make your fur more appropriate for a greater variety of occasions. When you take your coat to an alteration shop, they will use a seam ripper to remove the original hem. With the coat on, you can determine the best length for your body, and your seamstress will pin the coat up to the appropriate length for a new hem. By taking your coat up to mid-thigh or even waist-length you can alter your coat to make it appropriate for a night out on the town or just running errands.
