Having a budget for a new collection of winter looks can actually be very useful to any budding fashionista and stylist, as it helps them make decisions about which pieces to buy. However, one thing that many people don’t consider is that wearing last year’s winter colours, styles and fashions, isn’t a faux pas, especially if you don’t have a lot of money to spend. Reusing or even customising old pieces to bring them up to date will cost very little, and could even save you a lot of money. So, look at your winter coat, is there anyway that you can customise it to make it look different? You could change the buttons, add a new belt to it, or even add little accessories, such as badges and brooches to give it more of an edge.
Similarly, if you have items of clothing that need mending – don’t throw them away, they can easily be salvaged and fixed for a low price. So, for example, if the zip on your beloved winter jacket is broken, take it to a professional that can fix it. Replacing the zip costs considerably less than buying a new jacket, and could save you a lot of money in the long run. Also, if your coat or another item of clothing is looking a little worn, or perhaps used, can it be given a new lease of life? Stray threads and missing buttons can add years to older pieces, keep care of them by trimming loose threads and replacing lost buttons. When storing your winter items, make sure you pack them in specialist clothing bags that will keep with dry and safe from moths and other potentially dangerous things, such as liquids. Taking the time to look after your clothes one year will mean that they will look great the next.
However, if you must buy a few items for your new winter wardrobe, then the trick is to buy a few key pieces for your wardrobe. Go for a new pair of jeans or two, or something altogether more luxurious, such as a new pair of biker style boots, or even two merino wool jumpers to keep you looking warm and stylish this season. Don’t overlook simple pieces either, such as hats and gloves, as these will not only keep you warm, but also make you look fabulous during the winter season.
